Today in 5/6 the students have discussed the National Apology Day 10 Year Anniversary and what it means.
In 5/6O we began by watching a BTN segment from ten years ago, just after the apology took place: http://www.abc.net.au/btn/story/s2219615.htm
In small groups the students had some thoughtful discussion around the following questions:
- What does it mean to say ‘sorry’?
- Should you ever say sorry, if you personally didn’t do anything wrong?
- How do we know when someone really means sorry?
Then students worked in small groups to learn more about the Stolen Generation and the National Apology, presenting some of their findings to the class. We then watched a video with the testimony of an Aboriginal women who was part of the Stolen Generation.
